Dottie Sterzinar

There is an inescapable visual chemistry as you view a work of ZAAP’s Featured Artist of the Month for September. It is a delicate combination of her skill in various media and her keen ability to capture a moment and adhere it to canvas. Each subject contains a glimmer of life and draws the viewer in.

This gifted artist uses a wide range of media from oils and pastel to colored pencil and watercolors to bring her works to life. Her love of portraiture only adds to her insightful approach. Studying with well-known artists like Daniel Greene, Ann Kullberg, Amy Lindenberger and Verna Curnow has heightened her awareness and creativity. She has also studied weekly with well-known portrait artist Marvin Triguba, who so inspired his students that even after his passing they gather and continue their studies.

The artist is Dottie Sterzinar. Her work has graced festivals and community buildings and now is featured at the ZAAP Gallery for the month of September. Her inspiration comes from many places and people. She studies pictures of great masters new and old. Artists like William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas as well as new masters like Howard Terpning, Morgan Weisting and Richard Schmidt. Her greatest inspirations have been artists like Leslie Cope and those she has studied with. In life, she is inspired by the mind and soul of the people and animals that she paints. In her landscape work, she captures and conveys the sereneness of the atmosphere.

In every piece she hopes that people find joy and appreciation for what she conveys on paper or canvas. In all Ms. Sterzinar creates, she shares a piece of herself. She has been very honored and touched to see the reactions of those who view her work and appreciate each stroke and detail. Dottie’s first love of art began as a small child in grade school when she created an illustration for a book report. Since then, the sky has been the limit and she can proudly say with confidence "I am an Artist.". To view the works of Ms. Sterzinar, celebrate with her in ZAAP’s September Artist of the Month Debut during Zanesville’s First Friday Gallery Hop on September 4, 2009. The ZAAP Gallery is located on 625 Main Street in Zanesville. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 1-5 pm as well as extended hours during First Friday events.
